Damned Covenant · The campaign

The Unlisted Asset

Something fell that was never in the ledger. The Covenant cannot bear an unowned thing.

The Cold Duchy

Something fell that was never in the ledger. The Covenant cannot bear an unowned thing.

The road

Ten fields — two ruled columns, and one line drawn under them. The Star-Fallen is the rival, and eight kingdoms stand in the way.

Chapter I · The Muster

An open column is the only thing this Duchy has ever been afraid of.

  1. 1

The Muster · Get the column through

    The Border Ledger

A Realm levy, and a column that does not add up.

To win: 10 of yours through their gate. Walk your soldiers into the ring at their gate. Every one that passes is off the field, and counted.

    Against: Human Realm.

Terms: The standing works — A spawner is already raised and already yours.

A levy on our border, and a column in their books that does not add up. We are here about the column. Walk it through.

  2. 2

First Blood · Cull the ranks

    Ashen Rolls

The Dominion keeps its own dead. You keep the receipts.

To win: 14 of their levies down. Not a body count — a particular kind of body. Put down the ones named. Razing them ends it too.

    Against: Undead Dominion.

The Dominion keeps its dead and we keep the receipts. Issue receipts for their levies. Both arrangements are lawful. Only one of them is current.

  3. 3

A Twist · Break the works

    The Burnt Column

Reavers in the archive road. Break their works and burn nothing else.

To win: 3 of their works down. Put their spawners down. The keep can stand.

    Against: Orc Horde.

Terms: The empty chest — You march with nothing. Everything you field, you earn here.

Reavers on the archive road. Break their works. Burn nothing - everything here is evidence.

Chapter II · The Rival

It counts our dead as salvage. It is not wrong to. That is the difficulty.

  1. 4

The Rival · Work the seam

    The Long Crater

The unlisted asset itself, and the people living in it.

To win: 9,000 gold banked holding the seam. Only gold banked while you hold the ring counts. Hold it and let the purse fill — or raze them instead.

    Against: Star-Fallen — the rival.

An object of unknown provenance, and a population living inside it. Neither is entered anywhere. Hold the seam and enter what it yields. That is what we are here to correct.

  2. 5

    Adversity · Break the sluice

    The Pressure Court

The Overwound have come for their paper. Hold the hall.

To win: the sluice broken, then the keep. Their sluice-house holds the water back. Break it and their lane drowns for the rest of the day — then raze what is left standing.

    Against: Steampunk Hold.

Terms: No walls of your own — Your keep cannot be fortified. Meet them in the field.

The Hold has come for its paper, in force and with a grievance. Break their sluice and drown the road they came by. The paper is exactly where it should be.

  3. 6

The Ally · Light the beacons

    Wyldwood Assizes

Elven wardstones on land the Covenant holds. Level them.

To win: 3 braziers kindled, on the crossing. Stand at each cold brazier until the fire takes. Kindle every one — or raze them instead.

    Against: Elven Court.

Terms: The war-chest — An ally has paid for this one. Spend it well.

Wardstones on land the Covenant holds by deed, signature and long quiet possession. Light them in our name — a stone answers to whoever kindles it. Serve notice afterwards.

Chapter III · The Long War

Possession is nine points of it. We are here about the tenth.

  1. 7

The Siege · Raze before the horn

    The Hull Redoubt

They have walled the crater with the thing they fell in.

To win: their keep inside 9m 00s. Their walls, and quickly. Time is the other enemy.

    Against: Star-Fallen — the rival.

Terms: Walled against you — Their keep was fortified long before you came.

Survey it before you storm it. Whichever way this goes, the dimensions are entered tonight.

  2. 8

The Reversal · Stand over it

    Whisper Meadow

Hold the meadow. The wild does not sign anything.

To win: 120s with none of theirs on the warded stone. The thing at the centre is yours to keep. Every soldier of theirs inside the ring wounds it. Keep them out until the clock is run.

    Against: Mythic Beasts.

Terms: The thin muster — Only your cheapest ranks answered the call.

Hold the meadow. The wild has never signed anything and cannot be reasoned with, only outstayed.

  3. 9

The Gathering · Raise the tithe · Eight commanders

    The Assembly of Debts

Every house that owes, and every house that is owed.

To win: 22,000 gold banked. Bank the war-chest while they try to stop you. Razing them ends it too.

    Against: Dwarven Clans.

Every house that owes and every house that is owed, on one field. Settlement day.

Chapter IV · The Crown

Listed, owned and filed. Nothing in this crater belongs to nobody any more.

  1. 10

The Crown · Bring the ark home

    The Cold Manifest

The wreck’s own record, and the last name on it. Before the seal cools.

To win: the ark, carried to your gate. The ark stands on the prize. Whoever reaches it carries it, at their own pace; it drops where they fall. Yours to your gate takes the field — theirs to their gate loses it.

    Against: Star-Fallen — the rival.

Terms: Walled against you — Their keep was fortified long before you came.

Bring the seal, the wax and a clerk who can write in the cold. The manifest is on the wreck; carry it home. This is paperwork done at swordpoint and it still has to be legible.

The rival

The Star-Fallen — Wreck-born of the Warm Crater.

The foreman is not waiting at the wreck. It has come to meet the ledger halfway.

The scavengers have a foreman, and it is counting our dead as salvage. It is not wrong to.

The Hull Redoubt - they have made a fort of the thing they fell in. Fitting. Take it and the wreck is listed.

The Cold Manifest. Every plate, every body, every unlisted thing on it, entered and owned.

How it ends

Crowned

Listed, owned, and filed. There is no longer anything in this crater that belongs to nobody.

Broken

The wreck stays unlisted and the ledger stays open. An open ledger is the only thing we are afraid of.

The Damned boons

The branch of the boon tree only the Damned Covenant can take:

BoonCostWhat it does
The Open Ledger1Every column in the black, for once.
Collateral2A body is an asset the moment it stops moving.
The Indenture2Twenty-five signatures, and nobody read one of them.
Foreclosure3The note came due, and it came due to you.
The Cold Manifest4Everything owed, called in at once.
