What Castle Battle is, what it costs, what it runs on and how it is played — answered from the game itself.

The answers

What is Castle Battle?

A free medieval real-time strategy game you play in the browser. You command one unit, your Builder: it raises spawners that muster troops by themselves, and those troops march on the enemy keep. Upgrade your spawners, fortify your keep, and raze theirs before yours falls. The guide covers the rest.

Is Castle Battle free?

Yes. There is nothing to buy with real money. The Royal Mint in the game shows prices as a joke and never charges anything — its gold, and the Battle Pass that doubles your rewards, are simply handed over.

Do I have to download anything?

No. It runs in the browser, on a computer or a phone. You can also add it to your home screen, where it opens full-screen like an app.

Do I need an account?

Yes, a free one: a commander name and a password, with no email address. It keeps your rank, your unlocked troops, your deeds and your gold between battles.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes. The game has its own touch layout, played in landscape; the controls page lists every gesture.

How many players are in a battle?

Duel 1v1 seats two commanders, Team Battle 4v4 seats eight commanders and Clash seats two commanders.

Can I play against the computer?

Yes. Any battle can be started against the AI, and two whole modes are fought against it: the Campaign — ten marches of ten battles — and the Gauntlet, all 100 matchups in one run, against foes that get harder the deeper you go.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Raise a War-band on the home screen and give your friends its code; the band marches into battle together. In a duel, a band of two is set against each other.

What are daily orders?

The Day’s Orders gives you 3 goals each day, with 500 base gold for completing all of them. Orders reset at midnight UTC. You can swap one unfinished order per day. See daily quests, rewards and reset times.

Can I save my army?

Yes. Choose 7 troops and save an army in one of the chooser’s three slots. Presets are separate for each kingdom and battle mode. The Armory and loadout guide explains unlocks and saved armies.

How do you win?

Raze the enemy keep before yours falls. In Clash an alliance falls only when every one of its keeps has been razed.

What do I actually control?

Only your Builder. It walks the field, raises and levels spawners and fortifies your keep. The troops the spawners muster march by themselves — you can give each spawner a march road, and hold troops in your keep or release them.

How many kingdoms and troops are there?

Ten kingdoms, each with 26 troops of its own — 260 troops in all, and not one shared between two kingdoms.

How do I unlock more troops?

Each kingdom starts with a handful of its troops. The rest are unlocked in the Armory with gold, and every battle pays gold — more for a win. Daily Orders, Deeds, the Campaign, the Gauntlet and a streak of victories pay more.

Is there ranked play?

Yes — Duel Ladder and Alliance Ladder, one for each battle, climbed through six seats from Levy to Warden. Your first five battles are a Proving that names no seat and then seats you where your measure falls. A season lasts a calendar month and pays gold by the seat you reached. See ranked.

What happens if I leave a ranked battle?

It counts as a defeat, and it is the one result the ladder's protections do not cover: 1 pip wherever you are standing, two once you have left two in a season. Where there is nothing on the track to take, the pips are owed against your next win. It can never cost you your seat. See ranked.

What are deeds and titles?

The Roll of Deeds holds 90 of them in eight families. Each pays gold once, many carry a title to wear beside your name, and eleven unlock a charge for your coat of arms.

Can I customize my commander?

Yes. Strike your own coat of arms and it flies over your keep in every battle. The Quartermaster sells, for gold you earn by playing, 14 Builder skins and 14 keep skins for every kingdom, 12 nameplates, 100 Builder symbols, 22 fireworks and 80 emotes.

What is War Weariness?

The game's overtime. If no keep has fallen after 7 minutes, the damage keeps take starts climbing every 75 seconds, up to three times normal — so a stalemate always breaks into a final push.

Does it work offline?

No. Every battle, even one against the AI, is played on the game's servers, so it needs a connection.

What are the controls?

Right-click (or tap) to send your Builder, B to open the build rack, U for upgrades, K to fortify your keep, G to hold troops inside it and R to release them. The whole sheet is on the controls page.
